Molecular paleohydrology: Carbon, the unsung hero
Oxygen and more recently deuterium isotopes have been widely applied to reconstruct past variations in precipitation. Through a core top
survey and downcore reconstructions from the Indonesian Seas, this presentation will shed light on the utility of carbon isotopes in paleohydrology.
Vegetation is sensitive to the seasonality of rainfall, which – as we suggest – is in turn reflected in the isotopic composition of leaf waxes ultimately deposited and preserved in sedimentary archives.
